A seminar that orients the students on the field of Information Technology was recently held at EARTS, URS-Morong, Morong, Rizal on January 24, 2015.
The activity dubbed as IT Convergence with a theme “Looking Beyond Horizon” is the first ever seminar that joined altogether the students of Information Technology, Computer Science and Short-term courses related to computer from the different campuses of University of Rizal System, namely, Antipolo, Binangonan, Cainta, Morong, and Taytay.
Various experts from the field of Software and Game Development and Information Technology were some of the speakers invited in the activity.
Mr. Markku Kero, CEO of Eqela and Job and Esther Technologies discussed the basic principles in software development. Mr. Solon Cheng, board member of Game Developers in the Philippines and member of the Technical Committee of CHED, introduced to the students the current state of game development in the country. Mr. Monchito Ibrahim, Deputy Executive Director of DOST-ICT Office, tackled the plans of the government in terms of free access to internet.
Also, Mr. Joseph Felix Pacamarra, Senior Security/Threat Analyst and awarded as Microsoft Most Valuable Professional, oriented the students on how to protect themselves from internet attack. Mr. Rollan Banez, Founder of Graphikarista and Adobe Community Professional/Adobe Certified Expert, introduced Adobe Magic using Creative Cloud. Mr. Gabriel Eric Majo Villanueva, Microsoft MVP for Windows Expert-Consumer and Imagine Cup 2014 Winner, launched the new version of Windows 10.
Two of the speakers gave the students insights on how to land a job and the career opportunities for the students taking up computer courses. They were Mr. Kelvin Villafuerte, Senior Marketing Supervisor of Jobstreet, and Mr. Joseph R. Villordon, Chapter President of IT Service Management Forum and Quality and Innovation Head of HP.
Finally, Mr. Marco C. Concepcion, Event Logistics & Marketing of UP System IT Foundation Inc., shared his stories on how to become successful on the career.
The activity was initiated by Guild of Information Technology Students (GITS) in URS-Antipolo Campus through the initiative of its president, Mr. Acepanky Leonardo and its adviser, Mr. Rommel Orjaleza. Also, present in the said activity was Dr. Flordeliza R. Penaranda, VP for Academic Administration of the University.
